Badging distinguishes the make and model of your treasured ride, but dirt, debris, soap, and wax often get caught in badges during routine cleaning. Debadging is a quick way to prevent this problem. Here's our Vincennes, IN Uebelhor and Sons Buick GMC Vincennes team's quick guide to safely debadging your car.
To safely debadge your vehicle, here's what you need:
- Soapy water (made with car shampoo)
- Microfiber cloths
- Polish
- Drill
- Drill buffer
- Fishing wire
- Heat gun (optional)
- Exterior detailer
- 3,000- to 5,000-grit sandpaper
- Car wax of your choice
Apply soapy water or exterior detailer to the badging and immediate surrounding area. Clean the badge with a microfiber cloth. Blast the badge with the heat gun to loosen the badge adhesive. Cut about 12 inches of fishing wire. Grasp it as if you're about to floss. Using a "flossing" motion, ease the fishing wire beneath the badge to slowly loosen it.
Pull the badge gently toward you. Buff the remaining adhesive away with your drill buffer, applying the buffer's flat side to the badging area. Apply soapy water. Gingerly sand away any remaining badge adhesive. Wipe the area clean with your microfiber cloth. Apply wax. Buff to a shine with your microfiber cloth.
